Architects from Room 1
We were given pictures of houses with foundations only. Our task was to design our own house and use pens to draw the rest of the house. We talked about it first, we went around our street and watched houses that are being built and then came back and drew our own dream house.

Keeping Ourselves Safe (KOS)
On Monday, we had the Police Helicopter landed on our big field at school. It was fun having it at our school.
Kaylarni
There were four police officers in the helicopter and they looked so cool with their uniforms on.
Tyeesha
Mrs Ripata took us around the helicopter and we took lots of pictures. We have learned that this Police helicopter has a big camera underneath to detect bad people from the sky. It is very big and round.
Mikayla
We were so excited about this and had so much fun. I think I would like to be a police officer in the future.

Writing letter 'Ee'
Peiten has been learning to write the letter 'e' correctly. He uses little white board and a white board marker to do this. I teach Peiten a story that associates with letter 'e' and that helps him to form the letter correctly. Peiten makes a line first and then a semi-circle and that is how he writes letter 'e'.
Sivi on the other hand is learning to write the letter 'e' using this: draw a letter 'c' and then make a line from the top end to the middle of the letter 'c'. Sivi finds it easier to follow this instruction than the one Peiten is comfortable with.
Well done to both of you!

IOL - Term 2
Intensive Oral Language aims mainly at; expanding oral language in the classroom; and vocabulary expansion. Here are some photos of what we did in term 2. We have invited quests to share their experiences with the children. We gave our children opportunities to talk about their experiences through using photos/pictures. Children have had an opportunity to write their own story using the knowledge, and the new vocabs that they have learned.

Maths - Imaging
Teaching kids to image numbers in their head was really hard. One of many strategies that I have tried was hiding their hands and use their fingers to trace the numbers that they are using. It worked and it made my students realise that they can see numbers in their head.
1st part of the video is about this problem. "Reece picked up nine pieces of rubbish and on his way to the rubbish bin he dropped two. How many rubbish was he left with?" ... 2nd part is about this problem - "Kaylarni had six marbles and Mikayla gave her three more marbles. How many marbles that Kaylarni had altogether?"

Maths Wall
Here is our Maths Wall - it has content Maths words that we used during the week and students are refering to that when discussing or solving a Maths problem. Maths Wall gives students many chances to say the Maths words, reminds students of definitions, shows students how to spell words correctly, and also gives students a quick representation of the Maths strategy that has been learning.
We made our wall towards the end of Term 2 and students have learned a lot. I have spotted some of them looking at the Maths Wall for help as they try to explain their ideas.
